My New Years Eve nails!

Yay, its New Years Eve!  I love New Years, but we usually don't have any big plans.  In fact, a lot of the times me and my fall asleep before 12:00......sometimes even at 9:00, LMAO!

These are my NYE nails.  And I LOVE them!  The base is Zoya Storm and for the glitter I used Cirque XX.    I applied XX just to my cuticle area.  I was going to do a gradient, but XX is more base to glitter so it didn't work well.  But I like the way the way chunky glitter looks just to the cuticle area.

Look!  I DO have a thumb!

Ugg, look at the reflectiveness of those diamond glitters!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and SAFE New Years!  What are your plans tonight?

OPI - Stay the Night

Is tomorrow really NYE?  I don't think we have any plans.  We're usually low key when it comes to NYE.  One of these days I wanna go down to the Seattle Center and watch the fireworks....I've actually never done that!

First off, I know this polish is not for everyone, but I LOVE it! This is coming from someone who hates gritty glitter.  This s OPI's Stay the Night.

I thought it was going to apply like a glitter, but it didn't.  I also thought it would dry fast like a glitter or a matte, but it didn't.  It has a regular dry time.  I applied 2 coats, one thin coat, and the second was sorta thick-ish.  I LOVE how the hot pink glitter shines through.  I really wanna know what they use for the "sand". Cause I really don't think it's glitter.  One thing I will also note is that this is a really stinky polish, phew!

I love it!!  I will also say this one looks much better in person.  Pictures make it look funky.

I really think OPI hit the nail on the head with this one!  Its so unique and different from anything I've seen.

At the same time I bought the purple, but I think I will go back and get the blue as well.  I wasn't a huge fan of the pink because of the stars in it, but maybe I will pick that one up too.

What are your thoughts on this strange polish?

Sonia Kashuk - Dime a Dozen

Yay for Saturday!  I had a particularly long Saturday work day as I got stuck doing inventory at work.  Gotta love the end of the year counts!  Basically I got stuck in the pharmacy at work, counting out thousands of times!

Anywhoo, I bought this polish last week from Target.  This is Sonia Kashuk's Dime a Dozen.  Its a lovely steel gray with multi colored shimmer (I see teal and fuchsia in there).  The formula on this was not great, but nothing I couldn't work with.

Love these steely grays!

Sephora by OPI - I'm So Sari!

Hey guys!  Hope you're having a good week!  Mine has been pretty rough.  My dog was having some issues on Saturday.  But thankfully a week, and $1000 later, we found out he is pretty fine for a dog his age.  So I'm glad I've got some more time with my little old man dog.

I've wanted this polish since the first time I saw it at Sephora.  For whatever reason I always hesitate when it comes to buying Sephora by OPI polishes.  They're what, a dollar more than OPI?  I'm glad I waited to by this, cause I picked this up at TJ Maxx for wait for it........$2.99!  Anyways, this is I'm So Sari!, and it is gorgeous!  I thought I was going to love it for the holo glitter thrown in there, but I LOVE it for the teal, metallic-ness of it!

Ack!  I love it!!

Anyone else see Les Misrables this week?  We tried to go on Christmas and it was sold out everywhere, so we went the day after Christmas as a family.  I will admit to being a HUGE Les Mis fan, and have seen the musical a number of times.  I will also admit to being very disappointed in the movie.  Not a huge fan of Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, or Anne Hathaway as Fantine.  There were some mediocre singers and some phenomenal singers (like the guy who played Enjolras, OMG was he amazing?!?).  I found the way they shot it kinda distracting, though will applaud them for singing it as it was filmed.  I kinda hoped it was going to be like when they made Phantom of the Opera into a movie (which I still think is an amazing movie!), but alas, it was not that for me!

Anyone else see it?  I would love to know you thoughts!

OPI - Gift Cards for Everyone!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas yesterday!  Mine was ok.  My guy was sick all day Christmas eve, and into Christmas, so it was kinda not the same without him.  Regardless, I had fun hanging out with my family, they always make me laugh, and we always have so much fun.  If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen all my unicorn goodies I got.  My mom knows me so well!  I literally squeezed the huge unicorn stuffed animal she got me and said "this makes me so happy", no joke!

I actually thought I posted these pics, but I guess not.  Anyways, when I saw the three OPI Ulta Holiday exclusive polishes I actually wasn't interested.  Till I picked up this color, and saw the intense teal shimmer running through.  This is Gift Cards for Everyone! and unfortunately the teal shimmer doesn't come out as much as I hoped.  The purple is just too stunning though, so I will let it slide.

I wish my pics turned out better, but oh well.

And I leave you with another awesomely weird video.  If you can last through it, tell me what the WTF moment of the video is!

Layla Soft Touch - Cherry Diva

How bout another post today?  I'm *trying* to get caught up, I have about 30 drafts started, and that's after deleting a bunch!  So here is a quick post in between my break from Christmas shopping.

My local Ulta got in a bunch of new Layla's a few weeks ago, and this is one of the two I picked up.  This is Cherry Diva from the Soft Touch collection.

I want to call it a pinky coral.  And y'all know how much I love this kinda shade of coral.  It's got a multi color shimmer that's mostly golden.  Double points for it being coral AND having gold shimmer!

I actually wasn't tempted to put topcoat on this, cause I LOVE matte's like this.  And triple bonus points because the shimmer in this sparkled!  It was almost like wearing glitter!

Sinful Colors Cinderella feat. Sally Hansen's Snow Globe

Yay!  We survived the end of the world! lol!  Hope everyone had a good week!  I need to finish my Christmas shopping.  Still trying to find a cute "baby's first Christmas" for my niece.  I can't seem to find a cute one!  I'm too picky!

Do you guys ever have one of those mani's where you think you don't like it, but in fact love it?  This mani was one of those.

I'm wearing the infamous Sinful Color's Cinderella.  I actually thought I would never buy this.  I would pick it up and say "meh" even with the gorgeous shimmer.  Well I can eat my words cause it is stunning!  I did find the formula weird, it was sheer and thick at the same time.

I topped it with the lovely polish you see above.  Sally Hansen Snow Globe.  I thought it was similar to China Glaze Snow Globe, but it is quite different.

I haven't even heard of Sally Hansen Snow Globe.  I found one random bottle at a local Bartell's hiding all by itself. I LOVE it though.  Can't wait to see what this looks like over other colors.

Jessica - Glitterati

Hi guys.  Hope everyone had a great weekend.  My guy and I watched our niece yesterday and it was so fun!  She is seriously the cutest thing ever, and she's such a great, happy baby.  If you follow me on Instagram (glitter_n_unicorns - follow me!) you would have caught one of my Christmas gifts to her.  You might also know I have lots of unicorn "toys", so when she came over, I took down some of my unicorn stuffies, and she went RIGHT to one of them!  My guys brother said something along the lines of "oh great, another unicorn lover in the family", and it gave me a evil twinkle in my eye knowing its just a matter of time....he by the way took accidental took one of them home, WTF! lol

Here are my nails today.  I didn't think I liked it at first, but I actually LOVE it!  I'm wearing Jessica's Glitterati.  As a base, I'm wearing Zoya's FeiFei which I chose cause the flash in the bottle of Glitterati was very similar.

After I got home, I realized this reminded me of something I already had.  The smokey base reminds me of Kleancolor Chunky Black Holo, and the glitter reminds me of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Bluebell.  I didn't realize how close to Chunky Holo Bluebell (which by the way, I've never worn....) this one is.  I find the glitter in the Kleancolor is the same all the way through, so it flashes the same color all the time.  But the Jessica seems to have different glitter that flashes different colors at the same time (does that make sense?).  If you see in the above pic, the glitter looks gold and orange instead of just one color.  You can also see in the bottle the two flashes of blue glitter.

My camera freaked out taking these pics.

This polish reminded me of dragons!

More green flash!

I REALLY wanted the blue flash that shows in the curves of the bottle!  But alas, it was not meant to be!  I believe this is from the Winter '12 collection, but have no idea.  All I know is that there was another glitter next to this that was pretty awesome.  One thing I will note about this polish is the smell.  It's got a very strong polish smell which is actually similar to Kleancolors.  I am not at all sensitive to polish smells, in fact I never smell polish when I apply it....I guess I'm use to it, but my guy pointed out how much this one smells.  He can usually smell them sitting 6 feet from me.

BUT, this one had a great formula, it spread out easily and dried super quick.  Wasn't gritty at all, I applied just one coat of topcoat and it is perfectly smooth.  I will also note just ONE nail had shrinkage on only ONE side....weird I know (the middle finger, and you can kinda see the shrinkage on the left side).  But I attribute the shrinkage to the 4 coats of polish I have here (two Zoya and two Jessica).  But why the one finger?  We will never know!

Influenster Fall Cosmo VoxBox

I was SOOOOO excited to receive my first Influenster VoxBox.

Here is my box.  Included in it is two FriXion Pilot Pens, BBW Forever Red Eau de Parfume sample, Ghirardelli Gourmet Milk Sea Salt Escape and Gillette Venus Embrace with a Venus and Olay refill.

First thing I tried was the chocolate which was super yummy!  You could definitely taste the salt in it which was awesome.  I am all about sweet and salty combos and this one was very tasty.

The next thing I tried was the razor.  I've tried the Gillette Venus razor before, and kinda felt the same way I did then.  The razor head is too.....floppy?  I don't know how to explain it, I feel it rotates too much.  I much prefer the women's Schick razors.

Now as far as the pens go, they're ok.  Nothing too special about them.  They are erasable which is nice in a pen, but like any erasable pen, they do leave behind some residue.  The eraser is also on the end of the pen, and I think they should have put it on the cap, so that when your writing, and need to erase something, you don't have to take the cap off to erase.

And last but not least is the Red perfume.  I LOVE it!  I actually bought this sample before it was released in October.  I'm happy to have another little purse sample.  I'm not good at describing scents but the description says it has pomegranate, red osmanthus (whatever that is, lol), and vanilla rum.  Whatever it is, it smells wonderful!  My only complaint is that it doesn't last long, but I've come to find that with Bath and Body Works fragrances.

Anybody else get a VoxBox?

China Glaze - United

Hi guys.  I'm sure everyone has heard about the sad news today about the shooting in Connecticut.  I've been in kinda a daze all day.  I'm so incredibly saddened and very, very pissed off.  My heart goes out to everyone involved.  I don't want to say anymore than that cause it will upset me too much.

Today I was finally able to find this color.  This is China Glaze United.  I already showed Hello Gorgeous! which is very similar.  This is a wee bit darker, and has some lovely fuchsia micro glitter thrown in.

I'm wearing two easy coats.  I found some areas weren't quite as covered as others, so I just dabbed those with polish, and it leveled out nicely.  I hope you can see some of the lovely holo sparkle.

I'm off  to a comedy show tonight which I hope helps keep my mind off of my anger at least for a little while. I'm also off to see The Hobbit tomorrow which I'm quite excited for.

What are your weekend plans?

Orly Halo - Reverse glitter gradient

Hope you guys don't mine my quick nighttime post.  I'm bout ready to hop into bed, I'm freaking tired!  Why yes, I do get into bed at 9:30....just like any regular old lady like myself! lol!

I wore this mani a couple weeks ago and was just so meh about it.  I don't think the colors meshed well, but I wanted some contrast between base and glitter.  Usually for an accent I try to get very matchy matchy, but I'm kinda worn out of that, and feel it just doesn't pop.  Well this one just kinda fizzled for me.

The base I used was Zoya Harley, which I usually love.  For the gradient I used Orly's Halo, which I also love.  But just cause I love them both, doesn't mean I like them both together.....meh.....

Orly Halo reminds me of one of my all time favorite polishes OPI's Spark De Triomphe which I'm sure I've shown multiple times before.  I've used almost half a bottle of it already.  And funny think is, I already have a back up bottle of it, but I'm still happy to have Halo.  They actually look much more similar to the naked eye then they do in the above pic.  There's a wee bit more bright gold in the Orly than the OPI.  If you have one, you probably don't need the other, unless of course your me!

Sephora Pantone - Parachute Purple

How in the world is it almost 12:00?!?  Wow, ultra lazy Monday morning!  We had a pretty fun weekend.  We stopped off at a BevMo store to begin with.  Anyone ever been there?  I've never even heard of it.  It recently made it's debut here in Washington.  They are apparently putting a store here in my home town which is awesome.  Right now the closest store is about a 25 minute freeway drive away.  Anyways, it's a HUGE store full of unique liquor and beer.  I was in beer heaven there!  You might have seen the IG photo I took of ONE aisle.  There were aisle's upon aisle's of microbrewery offerings.  I was hoping to find my favorite beer ever, but alas, they did not have it. I will have to resort to getting it at expensive prices at the Whole Foods just down from my house.  Anyways, if you have a location near your house, you should check it out.  They had good prices on beer, and they even had a $2,000 bottle of bourbon.  You know, something for everyone! lol.

Gah, can you tell I like beer?!?  Anyways, this purple beauty is Parachute Purple.  I was able to find this on clearance at the Sephora in my local JC Penney's for $5.00.  I find it weird that the JCP stores have different clearance than the regular Sephora stores.

Is this color not gorgeous?!?  It's an almost dusty blue/purple with gorgeous teal shimmer.  It was seriously, seriously gorgeous!  My bottle was a little thick, but that's cause I think someone opened it and tested it, and it wasn't sealed all the way.  Grrr, I hate when people do that!  Common, Sephora uses testers!

I seriously can't believe how fast my nails grow.  It seems like just a couple weeks ago I cut down to nubbins, now they look like this.  I know, first world problems right?  Nails that grow fast and healthy?  What can I say, I wasn't always so lucky!  Now if I could only shape them the way I want!

Orly Tempting Tea Rose feat. Cirque's Galinda

Hiya!  How are you all?  Yay for it being Saturday!  I think me and my guy are going to go look at some Christmas lights.  We're just having a hard time figuring out where to go right now.  So we'll see!

So I found this color the other day at TJ Maxx.  I've never heard of Orly Color Blast.  I asked around on PAA, and there wasn't much info there ether.  But whatever, I REALLY love this color!

If you've followed this blog long enough, you might know that I don't buy many creme polishes.  I'm sorta in the "well I have a similar creme polish, I don't need this one".  But when it comes to shimmers, all bets are off, I usually end up with lots of similar shimmers.  Well my one weakness when it comes to cremes?  Colors like Orly's Tempting Tea Rose.

I went through a period in the late 90's where I had LOTS of colors like this.  I still remember what sparked my never ending quest to find the perfect sheerish, white/light pink.  Carmen Electra.  Yeah, you heard it.  I remember seeing her in a magazine or something and she had these perfect nails...ugg, just thinking of it drives me crazy!  I STILL have not found that *perfect* color like hers.  I've come close, and really, if this color was more sheer, it might be *perfect*!

What I LOVE about this color is the slight pinkness to it.  Keeps it from being to stark.  I just love it!

After a day, I didn't want to take the color off, so I applied Cirque's Galinda.  Obviously this glitter is very subtle over such a light base color.  I thought it was pretty.

I think I'm going to try wearing this over a nude base.  I think it might have a lace type feel.

Gah!!  Lookit how gorgeous it looks in the bottle!  This polish consists of large matte white hex with smaller matte white hex glitter.  It also contains the same veeeerrrrry fine holo shimmer that XX and Debris has in it.  There's also larger iridescent glitter in the mix as well.  It's lovely, just lovely I tell you!

If you guys follow me on Instragram (you can find me at glitter_n_unicorns) you will have seen my most recent purchase using the $15.00 Beauty Insider gift card from Sephora.  I FINALLY got the UD Naked Palette 2!  I've been waffling on is since it came out.  I thought it would be too close to the original Naked palette to justify having both.  Well I'm happy I finally got it, cause it is quite different, and it will definitely get some good use!  So hopefully I will have some upcoming looks with it!

I'm curious to know what you guys got with your $15.00 Sephora gift card?

Pure Ice - Alter Ego

Hi guys!  Hope you are all having a wonderful week!  Thanks for all the sweet comments on my last post.  I'm the suffer in silence type, but sometimes it helps to just say it.  Anyways, I'm feeling a bit better now.

In my recent Pure Ice swatchfest post, I commented that I had one more Pure Ice beauty to show you and here it is.  This is Alter Ego.  This color deserved it's own post.

*sigh* I could NOT get my damn camera to take sharp pictures!

This polish reminds me of ChG Midtown Magic (which by the way I was able to pick up a backup bottle of!   Last years ChG fall collection is $1.99 at TJ over there!!).  Anyways, this one is stun, stun, stunning!  It's a dark espresso brown with a very strong shimmer in it.  It also includes lots of large clear-ish flakies in it.  The flakies remind me of Sally Hansen's Glass Slipper.

If you like brown polish, shimmer and NEED to pick this up!

Cirque - XX

Hi guys!  Hope you're having a great weekend.  I feel like I am not at all in the holiday spirit, and it makes me sad, cause I want to be.  I've got a wee bit of depression running through me now that is making it hard for me.

This awesome glitter is Cirque's XX.  The description on this one says "A rainbow glitter polish made with over 20 different types of holographic particles."  Lemme just say there is a ton going on in here.  I see large pink, blue and holo hex's.  I see large diamond shaped glitter, large square, small blue, pink and holo hex's and smaller square glitter.  The base has a dusting of holo shimmer reminiscent of Northern Lights holographic topcoat, but the shimmer is much finer.

Just believe me when I say this glitter is awesome.  I applied this last night over a bubblegum pink, and just did not like it (you will see the pic below).  I also had found it was a wee bit difficult to work with, as the glitter just wanted to clump up on itself, and not spread out.  I added about 10 drops of thinner which really seemed to help.

All the glitter has that holo-y rainbow-y shift to it, so this is sparkling like crazy.

I liked this base polish better for this glitter.  I used Orly's Decades of Dysfunction which I have shown here as well.  I think it lets all the glitter in this be the center of attention instead of the base overwhelming the polish like you see below.

When I started staring at this it reminded me of something.....then it hit me.  This reminds me of my all time favorite polish Deborah Lippman's Glitter in the Air.  I think it's cause of he pink and blue theme this has.  Obviously this is not at all the just reminds me of it.

First try....blech.  Too barbie for me!

Overall I freaking love the way this looks.  I kinda wish it had the same formula as Cirque Debris has (which I just realized I haven't actually shown....will need to do that soon!).  But it's ok.  I still love this!

Anyone else pick this up?
