Update

Hey guys!  I'm still alive...still without a computer though!  I just can't seem to fix it...damn blue screen of death!  Anyways, I wanted to give you guys an update as I seem to be gaining followers, not losing any, so thanks guys!

(insert cute cat picture here......)

So my cat had his procedure a couple weeks ago, and the biopsy's came back as small cell lymphoma.  I know it sounds scary, and it really was there for a while, but all the doctors at work, and the specialty center I took him too are very optimistic about his results.  SCL is a cancer of the GI track.  It's very manageable on steroids and chemo drugs.  I also have to give him B-12 injections as this cancer prevents certain vital vitamins from being absorbed (or at least that's what I understand....I'm kinda on information overload).  The chemo drugs he gets 3 days a week (and are $70 for 12 pills!!!).  The specialist told me most cats with SCL have a life exectancy of 12-18 months, but that's because they are older cats, and they usually pass away from something other than SCL (like kidney disease).  It makes me optimistic as I've been reviewing some of our patient charts, and have found lots of different cats with the same thing, living 3, 4, 5 years.  My cat is 14 now, I've always expected him to live to be 18 or 20....so knowing this info, makes me feel better about the whole thing.

This cat is my life!  I've had many other cats before him, but none quite as special as him.  Everybody that knows this cat loves him, he just has one of those personalities.  It makes me happy to know he can continue to share a few more years with me if all goes well....now to get rid of his poopy tail problem!!

I hope you all are doing well....I'm *trying* to keep updated on all my blogs, but I'm doing a piss poor job at it!

  2. Poor baby! He will need lots of hugs and pampering which is probably not anything different from normal. I highly suggest you research the medication to see if you can get it cheaper somewhere online. You probably can and at a reduced price. Every little bit helps.

    1. Thanks for the advice Kris. I've already looked into this, and unfortunatly its hard to find a reliable source online to buy meds, a lot of places that sell this particular med are from Canada, and they state they get the meds from outside sources. Working in the veterinary industry, I know that means fake and counterit meds, and I'm just not going to risk it. I might be able to order the meds directly from the recources here in the state, and I'm looking into it.

    1. Oh I know, I try not to think about life withbout him....because of this it has forced me to, and it is going to be really, really hard for me. More so than when my dog passes away. I will miss my dog terribly, but the cat will be a whole different level.

  6. I'm a new follower, and I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty! My boyfriend and I have three between us, and one had a little health scare a few weeks ago... It wasn't anything serious, but I know how frightened I was when I was thinking about all the things that could be wrong with her! I hope that your kitty does ok and that you can get him on a treatment that works for him!
