(insert cute cat picture here......)
So my cat had his procedure a couple weeks ago, and the biopsy's came back as small cell lymphoma. I know it sounds scary, and it really was there for a while, but all the doctors at work, and the specialty center I took him too are very optimistic about his results. SCL is a cancer of the GI track. It's very manageable on steroids and chemo drugs. I also have to give him B-12 injections as this cancer prevents certain vital vitamins from being absorbed (or at least that's what I understand....I'm kinda on information overload). The chemo drugs he gets 3 days a week (and are $70 for 12 pills!!!). The specialist told me most cats with SCL have a life exectancy of 12-18 months, but that's because they are older cats, and they usually pass away from something other than SCL (like kidney disease). It makes me optimistic as I've been reviewing some of our patient charts, and have found lots of different cats with the same thing, living 3, 4, 5 years. My cat is 14 now, I've always expected him to live to be 18 or 20....so knowing this info, makes me feel better about the whole thing.
This cat is my life! I've had many other cats before him, but none quite as special as him. Everybody that knows this cat loves him, he just has one of those personalities. It makes me happy to know he can continue to share a few more years with me if all goes well....now to get rid of his poopy tail problem!!
I hope you all are doing well....I'm *trying* to keep updated on all my blogs, but I'm doing a piss poor job at it!
